Featured Artist: Marie Nilsson (aka Kattvalk)

Hi, I’m Kattvalk! My real name is Marie Nilsson. I’m a cat loving, self-taught artists from Sweden. I have one passion in life and that’s drawing. When I’m not creating crosswords (yes that’s a thing) for magazines in my daytime job, I’m drawing. Or painting. I never really stuck with one kind of art medium, or art style for that matter. I like to draw and paint whatever comes to mind, but I always try to let my own style shine through.

I’ve been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil, and I love to try out new drawing materials and techniques, and learn new things. Some of my favourite mediums to work with are colour pencils, watercolours, ink, a ballpoint pen and markers. Markers have been a big favourite since I first tried them 10 years ago. I like they way you can blend the colours together, and I often combine them with colour pencils or watercolours.

Also, did I mention that I love cats? Hope you enjoy this months supplies!

Challenge: Happy Cat

This month we are exploring an alternative range of alcohol markers in a collection of autumnal colours to keep you purring like a cheshire cat, right through to winter.

What was in the box?

Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers –

A wide selection of refillable double-ended markers that boast a broad chisel nib for large area fills and a fine bullet tip for more fine detailed work. The ergonomic, rubber gripped, hexagonal barrel also provides greater comfort whilst colouring.

Zig Brushables Two-Tone Brush Pen –

A marker with a clever concept: one end lays down a fully pigmented colour, whilst the other applies a 50% tint of the same colour. Use the light end to work over the dark ink for a smoother, more even blend.

Staedtler 308 Pigment Liner Pen 0.3 –

A quality opaque black fineline pen with a long metal tip, for seamless use with rulers and templates. The pigment ink is indelible, lightfast, waterproof and quick drying, so no smudges.

Staedtler Mars Lumograph Pencil 2H –

The Lumograph 2H Pencil is a great choice of pencil for all types of drawing and sketching. The lead is super bonded, which makes it more break resistant, but it is still easy to erase and very easy to sharpen.

Staedtler Mars Rasor Eraser Pencil –

An eraser pencil for fine point detail erasing, that also has a brush on one end for cleaning your page. You can even sharpen it with any good-quality standard pencil sharpener.

Canson Bristol Paper 250gsm –

This paper has an extra smooth, strong, clean white, acid-free surface perfect for using with markers.
