Working primarily with calligraphy inks, graphite and liquids, such as tea, brandy and vodka Griffiths’ fascination with drawing focuses on the creation and manipulation of the drawn line. Images explore human, geometric and floral forms, in a combination of both literal and abstract translation and in response to images and situations encountered in daily life. Images are recorded in a dreamlike sense onto the page where physical boundaries are unimportant. His work creates a journey of escapism which focuses on scenes of awe and wonder, projecting a sense of abandonment and inviting the viewer to share and explore this inner realm.
For this months box we worked with Carne to provide you with a small selection of the tools he uses to create his work in the hope that, along with his featured print, they inspire you to embrace chance, be spontaneous and create.
Create layers, dribbles, flicks, washes, and fine lines with these multi use pens. The waterbased, fluid, opaque, highly pigmented inks are permanent when dry. You can even use water to create blend effects.
Derwent Graphik Line Maker
A classic drawing pen, that features a high-quality nib that glides effortlessly over the page, producing smooth, free-flowing lines. The water-based pigment ink gives rich pure tones that are lightfast.
Parker Vector Fountain Pen
This versatile fountain pen might be best known as a writing implement but it gives great line variation and ink flow that can also be utilised for drawing too.
Derwent Graphite Pencil (Soft)
A traditional, high-quality soft graphite pencil with a smooth, finely textured graphite strip and a hexagonal barrel. Easy to sharpen to a good, long-lasting point.
Tetley Tea Bag
You have probably drank tea before but have you ever painted with it? Brew a strong cup and then water down for varying shades and apply like any other ink.
Bockingford 300gsm CP White Paper
This traditionally made English watercolour paper is made using pure materials to archival standards and is the paper of choice for our featured artist.
