What would your reaction be if you were turning to gold? We think this captures it perfectly! Not only is the expression on the face on point, the expressive marks with the carbon for the hair and graphite details are too! -

We asked: What is your usual go to supply for creating?

“I have been experimenting with a lot of different supplies in the last couple years, but my favourite pencil to draw with is a Koh-i-nor Magic Pencil with multicoloured lead. It literally was a magic pencil for me because it got me to start drawing regularly again.”

There were too many too chose from when deciding which one of Helen’s pieces as a top 3! We love how the supplies have been used in each piece, the layering on top of the gold for the eagle being our favourite, the blending is so smooth in the eye!

We asked Helen, we can see you have created a number of pieces using this box, where did that inspiration come from?

“Yes I did do a lot of artwork with this box - I absolutely loved it! I have drawn a reasonable amount with graphite before, but it never would have occurred to me to use it with gold pen, and that's exactly why I love Scrawlrbox - it inspires me to try different ideas and materials I would otherwise never had thought to use. I have been blown away by the quality of artwork being posted in the community pages, and it's just been so inspiring since I started being part of that community. Sorry if that sounds corny, but it really is!I started photographing wildlife as a hobby many years ago, but I've always loved watching wildlife ever since I was a child. Just before the pandemic I was given some soft pastels, and I started painting with those, and it really rekindled my love of art, so I started drawing and painting again, using my photos as references, and since discovering Scrawlrbox I've been trying loads of different things. My inspiration for my subjects is the wildlife I watch, but my inspiration for trying different ways to portray it has come from art communities like the Scrawlrbox community, so thanks!”

We love how this months prompt, Midas Touch, has been interpreted so different by everyone! This piece, with all its little quirks and details is just great! We love the sketch, the gold and the added little blocked off white boxes to give this piece some great character!

What did you think of this months box? ?

“I think the current box was very nice, the gold marker really great quality as well as the pencils, it allowed me to draw something again using pencils for the first time in a long time.”

Scrawlrbox #094 made us wonder if the Midas touch was actually a curse rather than a blessing. The featured artist of this box is Iskra Sale, whose art caught our eye for it’s ethereally breathtaking artwork. Her piece “The Garden in Me” inspired this box. The box contains Wolff’s pencil set which included a carbon block, reusable Tracedown paper, a white graphite pencil, drawing paper and a gold Pilot marker.
