The first thing we noticed about thisproud looking feathered beast is thebright and bold colours! As you lookcloser you can see how the gouachehas been built up brilliantly to form thefeather details. Excellent work!

One of the great things about these challengesis everyone’s mind goes in alternate directions. We’ve never seen anything like this curiouscreature before! After a Google of what aGaruda is, not only have we learnt somethingvaluable, giving this really wild, bright and funpiece a whole new perspective. We love it!

What made you think of Garudafor this prompt??

“I am fascinated by the colourful symbolsof Indo Tibetan Buddhism. I wanted to findan image which allowed me to play with thebright colours of the paints. Painting a garudaallowed me to really go for it in using strongbright colours. And I am intrigued by scarymythical beasts which are partly bird/animaland partly human. The Garuda is both eagleand human. He is the mythical Lord of thebirds in Indian traditions.”

Biiiiiiiig stretch! We love the layering usedin this painted illustration, the delicatecolours make it look like watercolour. Allthe little details thrown in really gives itsome movement, and a great use of boldoutlines to finish this cute stretchy kittywith character.

What is your go to technique for using Gouache?

“I try to build up very slowly! Startingvery light ans building up darker, especially when you don’t have whiteincluded. Taking your time is veryimportant as well.”
