June '22 ScrawlrChallenge: 'Electric Dreams'
The vivid colour selection of Pilot Pintor Markers included in the August 22 ScrawlrBox may or may not have thrown you for a loop. Capturing tonal value with such a striking neon palette is certainly not the easiest task to be presented with, but when used correctly working with neons can be stimulating and thrilling. As long as you embrace the madness and step away from more traditional ideologies of colour, you can create some truly stunning art.
For this month’s #ScrawlrChallenge we asked you to consider the concept of ‘Electric Dreams’. There is no correct way to interpret this, so whether you followed a literal perspective with dreamy, lightening inspired creations, or whether you took a more interpretive attitude whilst exploring the wonders of electric neon, we loved them all! Here is our Top 3 for the month.
Just look a this electric dragon! We love it when we can challenge you to a colour or supply you might not normally reach for, especially when you love the end result.
"Here's my finished take on "Electric Dreams", the last theme for the monthly ScrawlrBox challenge. Again a pretty unusual method for me with unusual materials, but that's the point of doing these challenges. I've never tried such colours on my own, I prefer the more natural palette. But do I like the results? Sure I do!
Another thing I wouldn't have went for are the markers I used here. These are very convenient to use, no clean up needed when you finish, unlike any paint 😆Maybe it's not a surprise if I tell you my favourite was the pink”
I mean, wow. This piece really stood out to me, its captured the streets of Toyko perfectly, even down to the reflection. The attention to detail is just amazing. An absolute inspiration! And really embraced the neon theme of this box.
“One of my favourite pieces this year! The theme for this month's box was 'Electric Dreams', and came with these amazing neon paint pens!
I liked the idea of a city with neon signs, so I looked for a street view on Unsplash. This shot was taken by Duncan Lewis at Shinjuku, Tokyo!”
A beautiful neon aquatic scene. She’s maned to turned what is quite a loud colour palette into tranquillity. We love how the purple Micron has been watered down for the pond details, really makes hose neon fish pop! Excellent take on the prompt and use of the supplies.
"Neon colours are not ones I normally ever use so this month’s #scrawlrchallenge has really challenged me.”
