Let's Tackle Artblock
Art block can feel heavy, especially when the pressure to create is tied to “making something good” or posting online. One of the simplest ways to break free is to doodle without expectation. Pick up your pen, pencil, or brush and let your hand wander. Make lines, dots, squiggles, splats… anything that comes to mind. These carefree marks are about relaxing into the process, not creating a masterpiece.
Sometimes, you might even stumble across a “happy accident” that sparks new ideas. Other times, you’ll simply enjoy a moment of calm creativity and that’s just as valuable.
Remember: you don’t always have to share what you make. Give yourself permission to step away from social media, experiment for your own enjoyment, and reconnect with the fun of making.
1. Set Up: Grab a blank page and a favourite pencil or pen and something to colour with.
2. Doodle: doodle shapes all over the page. It can be the same shape or mix it up to form a pattern over the page. The idea is just to get shapes on the page, not think about what they look like.
3. Colour them in: Colour all those shapes in! use the same tone or just anything you hand lands on. It’s all good.
4. Make your mark : Choose a “comfort mark” (like stars, dashes or dots) and fill the now colourful shapes with playful variations. Mix up the size, line width, direction.
Just a little something to create without much thought. Be kind to yourself, creativity will follow.
