Top Tip From Chris

Create textures

By using a rubbing technique. Place your paper on top of an object with texture e.g. A metal mesh, and rub your crayon over the page with the object underneath. Et Volia! Instant texture. Great for backgrounds or adding in more visual interest.

Top Tip From Kat

Switch up how you hold the crayons.

Hold your crayons in different ways. Use the different sides to create varying marks and utilise for shading.

The thin, flat side is great for gentle sweeps of colour, while the pointed end will create some lovely thin lines for detailing. The thicker side is ideal for adding in bold strokes of colour.

Drawing With A Single Line

Start sketching before you begin drawing your final artwork . Keep a sketchbook on hand to practice.

Try to leave the pen on the paper until you are done with your shape.

If you cannot do that, then make small figures for a start and try to connect them with one single unbroken line later on.
