Derwent Lightfast Pencils
(Sapphire, Magenta, Sun Yellow and Black)
The legendary Derwent Lightfast pencils. These colouring pencils have been formulated, as the name suggests, to be 100% lightfast. The revolutionary core is resistant to prolonged colour change ensuring artwork will not fade for up to 100 years under museum conditions. These pencils are oil based which means you can get smooth, velvety laydown of colour. These pencils also lend themselves well when mixed with oil mediums, the pencil colour can behave more like an oil paint. The pigment in these pencils is far richer than the average pencil, meaning each colour colour will appear deeper.

Hatching and Cross Hatching
It’s best to use a hard pencil with a sharp point for this technique, to create crisp fine lines.
Hatching: Rough parallel lines are drawn closely together to form a shade or texture. Great for hair or shadows and tones.
Cross Hatching: Criss cross your parallel lines over each other. Great for creating shadows and textures. It can also add depth and weight to objects.
