Stuart Semple

Stuart Semple is a multidisciplinary British artist whose practice spans painting, performance, internet art, and installation. His works adopt a sociological lens to explore themes of youth politics, mass culture, image, technology, and anxiety. Often activist in nature, his broader projects frequently strive for fairness, equality, and access, particularly within the arts.

Semple has enjoyed numerous solo exhibitions worldwide and has presented projects at international institutions, including the Denver Art Museum, The Whitworth, Barbican, Hong Kong Arts Center, and Dulwich Picture Gallery. He is the author of ‘Make Art or Die Trying’ published by Quarto. Semple regularly speaks on art and mental health, with appearances at Oxford University, The Southbank Centre, Frieze, RCA, and the ICA.

What was in the box?

Culture Hustle, Black 4.0, Acrylic Paint Pouch

The paint that stated it all. This is the blackest black ever known to the universe, born out of creator Stuart Semple’s obsession to create completely unique art supplies and making them available to everyone (unless you are Anish Kapoor. Sorry Pal). This intensely rich black pigment is deep enough to absorb all light, giving it an intense flat and matt finish. A little goes a long way. Mix with water to loosen the pigments. This paint works on all surfaces too, so long as its non oily and non slick. RRP £14.99

Culture Hustle, White 2.0, Acrylic Paint Pouch

What else would go better with the blackest black? The worlds brightest white of course. This one coat wonder in a bottle features a special blend of optical brighteners that reflect light evenly for a perfectly balanced consistent coverage with a bright matt finish. A little goes a long way. Can be used on any surface so long as its non oily and non slick. RRP £12.99

Culture Hustle Easy Klein, Incredibly Kleinish Blue Acrylic Paint Pouch

This High grade pigment, super-matte acrylic is another democratised colour made available from the Culture Hustle crew. In 1960 the artist Yves Klein registered the formulation for his iconic International Klein Blue (IKB), which meant other artists couldn’t use it, however you can now. Like Klein’s original formula the effect of this paint is a unique, rich, and distinctive blue. Totally flat, and ultra-matte. A beautiful absorbing almost powdery tone. Unlike Klein’s formula this paint is not toxic, doesn’t smell bad and the pure pigment doesn’t clump. It’s a joy to paint with. RRP £12.99

Culture Hustle, The Worlds Pinkest Pink Powder Paint

For that big pop of colour. While not as opaque as the other formulations you will find in this box, the pigment packs an almighty bright neon pink punch to your work. Visible light is powerfully reflected by this high pigment paint to create a strong fluorescent effect. Just add water and mix to a thick consistency. Dilute as required. RRP £3.99

Marabu Flat Head Paintbrush, Size 16

A high quality synthetic paintbrush. The flat head makes for some lovely large sweeps – just switch up the angle for thinner strokes. RRP £5.49
