The Derwent watercolour pencil is good. The lyra pencil is fine, although I would have preferred another watercolour pencil (I did try it with water but didn’t work). And the brush is fine.
Firstly, you do get a lot in the tube (the tube is almost full which is nice). I think the colours could have been better, I would have preferred the modern primary colours, yellow, magenta and cyan. The colours provided weren’t even traditional primary colours (yellow, red and blue) instead there was plum which is more of a purple than a blue.
The crayons aren’t as water soluble as I hoped. I tried colouring with them then adding water with a brush, with a water dropper and a spray. Then I tried colouring heavily on the page and using it as a palette which worked, it created a light watercolour. Then I added clear water on the page and drew on top and lastly I dipped the crayons in water a drew with them.
Mixed results, using waster with a brush on top of the colour was the worst technique which it strange as it’s the most common. Overall the crayons aren’t impossible to use however the Derwent watercolour pencil work best (which is nice as I’ve only ever tried the Derwent academy watercolour pencils which aren’t so good).
I think instead of the crayons they should have added stabilo woody pencils, I’ve never tried them but I’ve heard good things about them, they’re like a Chucky watercolour pencils which also words on black paper and glass.
