Katarzyna Kmiecik

Katarzyna Kmiecik is a professional artist and illustrator based in Puławy, Poland. She is best known for her dream-like depictions of landscapes. She specialises in watercolours, pencil and liquid pencil, which perfectly combines both techniques.

In 2012 she founded the Art School “Kreska”, where she continues to teach perspective drawing and watercolour. She presented her stellar teaching skills during many live and online demontrations.

Katarzyna represented Poland in, Fabriano In Aquarello 2019” (and 2020) and numerous other international exhibitions. Her work “Under the Green Cloud” was announced the best on the show during the group exhibition in Wrocław (Poland) - “100 WATERCOLOURS – Magic of Places”.

In the near future, Katarzyna plans to expand her artistic activities with a YouTube channel, a blog, and an online course.

Mother Nature

We are all familiar with graphite and have probably used many wooden cased graphite pencils in the past, but have you ever used liquid graphite? This month we are experimenting with this interesting medium and exploring the different ways it can be applied, erased and the effects you can get when adding water. Graphite is a naturally occurring product and we wanted the theme of this box to reflect that. Use the earthy tones included to explore the mystery of mother nature and bring 'her' to life in your artwork.

What was in the box?

Derivan Liquid Pencil Tubes (Rewettable)

Liquid Pencil is an innovative graphite paint that allows you to create authentic graphite pencil effects and pencil sketches using a liquid medium. It can be thinned with water to allow for the softest of colours to be applied with a brush, nib, or other art tools. It is great for covering large areas quickly and easily and the colour can be built up in layers. Due to a precisely balanced formulation another great benefit of the rewettable liquid pencil allows you to remove areas using water - akin to watercolour techniques and it is possible to lift some pigment with a traditional eraser.

Derwent Water Soluble Sketching Pencils

These Derwent Water-soluble Sketching Pencils will enable you to create an incredible range of dramatic effects. They have a soft, wide core that makes them perfect for creating loose, bold lines when dry. And when you add water – either with a brush or simply by dipping the pencil – the graphite will gently dissolve, lending you to create subtle tonal shifts and softer pencil line work. They are ideal for creating expressive tonal drawings, detailed line work and expressive washes in your artwork making them a highly versatile addition to your artist arsenal.

ScrawlrBox Flat Synthetic Brush (Size 10)

This Scrawlrbox flat synthetic brush is the perfect instrument for defined and precise brush strokes in your artwork. It has Kolinex synthetic hair and a Nickel plated brass ferrule making is a very attractive addition to your paint brush collection. Koh-I-Noor Combined Eraser

This eraser comes with a 2-part erasing ability. The soft end (white) is designed for erasing medium to light graphite lines and the firmer end (grey) is great for erasing darker graphite and ink lines. It is a perfect pairing for use with the Derivan Liquid Pencil.

Etival A5 CP Water Colour Pad 300gsm (8 Sheets)

This high-quality paper is made from 300g of pure cellulose watercolour paper. It has a slight grain-like texture and has a natural white colour, made without acid or optical brighteners. It is light-resistant and very absorbent, making it ideal for all wet applications but is suitable for every kind of wet or dry techniques.

I am in love with the liquid graphite! it was so fun to use and the flat brush was a real treat to apply it with as well as using to blend the water soluble pencils - i was very impressed indeed with the whole set and the artists print was absolutely gorgeous!

An unusual medium to work with but after figuring out a good way to work I've had fun with this set. The liquid pencil will come in handy as an alternative in my sketches.
