Chris Lambert
Hello Scrawlr’s... My name is Chris Lambert, but I sign my doodles with the handle Crease, a nickname given to me a while ago that I have adopted as my creative pseudonym. I am the founder of ScrawlrBox, but I am also a creative just like you. I have been interested in art and drawing for as long as I can remember and have always doodled on any spare scrap of paper or envelope sat in front of me. I took every art class in school as I knew I wanted to be creative, but I never really knew what I wanted to ‘be’ when I grew up. I ended up choosing to study textile design at university where I fell in love with pattern and the history and intricacy of these traditional designs.
I took my daily doodles and turned them into my artwork style. I applied these shapes and design elements into a more traditional style. I have adore the shapes and motifs seen in paisley designs and have adopted some of these shapes into my style. Now I cannot doodle anything without a teardrop shape of some sort finding its way into my work.
I rarely start with a plan on how the final piece will look and I usually just start with a simple shape or line and just keep building on it. I try to let my subconscious and the drawing journey lead me. My advice would be just keep adding lines and don’t think about it too much. Draw a shape, add a different shape or line connecting to that, and then another, and another and slowly build up adding more and more detail until it feels complete... the hardest part is knowing when to stop!
The supplies in this months box were selected especially for you by our founder (and doodle addict) and we are featuring his artwork to help you explore these supplies and find a way to help you create a doodle style of your very own. Take inspiration from the traditional patterns and styles of the past and give them your own unique twist with shapes and elements that mean something to you. Try to let go and not worry about the final outcome, just start doodling, enjoy the process and keep scrawling!

What was in the box?
Tombow ABT Pro Markers
These professional quality markers are alcohol-based with two versatile tips. The flexible nylon of the brush tip provides a particularly elegant swing that follows the natural hand movement whilst the carefully designed line width of the chisel tip has been optimised for the special needs of illustrators, designers and architects alike. These pens are slim and ergonomically shaped making them comfortable to use for long duration. They have slow and easy-to-control ink flow, allowing you to work with extreme precision and this is especially helpful for layering. Thanks to their alcohol-base, you can blend different colours directly without water. These alcohol-based markers are both dynamic and stable at the same time, making them perfect for expressing your creativity in an outstanding way.
Blackwing x ScrawlrBox Special Edition Pencil
This very limited edition pencil is a special ScrawlrBox and Blackwing collaboration, and cannot be found anywhere else except in this box. In fact, you are the first Scrawlrs to see it in person! It features the iconic Blackwing square ferrule and eraser that is removable and replaceable. It has a smooth graphite balanced core, which is a similar softness to a 4B pencil, encased in a California incense cedar barrel. This beautifully crafted pencil is coated in a unique and stunning teal gradient, paired with some trademark Scrawlr squiggles, which altogether makes for the perfect pencil (if we do say so ourselves).
Kuretake Millennium 03 Black Fineliner
This Kuretake Millennium 03 Black Fineliner is ideal for all your fineliner needs. This easy writing and sketching pen is an essential instrument for all of your doodle creations. The permanent acid-free pigmented ink is of archival quality and it is also water-based, light-fast, waterproof, acid-free, non-bleeding, photo-safe and odourless. This pen is an attractive, reliable fineliner featuring a wide, silver barrel, a long cap and a sturdy metal clip and it is a wonderful addition to your high quality, black fineliner collection.
Clairefontaine A5 Comic Book A5
The Clairefontaine mill has been making paper since 1858 and they are now famous for their premium notebooks and inspiring quality, through their paper products. This A5 comic book contains 12 sheets of premium, acid-free, exceptionally smooth and high-quality paper, offering a delightfully luxurious writing, colouring and sketching experience. You can use both sides of these paper sheets as they will not bleed-through, making this sketchbook the perfect pairing with alcohol-based markers. Fill it with doodles.
This box is worth the money for the clairefontaine double sided artist book alone - the alcohol ink of the pens is touch dry almost immediately and it doesn't show through on the second side, meaning that you can draw your designs on both sides without worrying that the ink will show through and ruin your other drawing! It's perfect for comic book style pages and there is lots of inspiration on the Internet for using the pens that come with it. They are a good quality brand and the brush pen is easy to use to get varying line widths.
