Camilla Gardner
Camilla Gardner (nee Edwards) was born in County Durham in 1963. After 5 years of successful study at major art schools in England, Camilla became aware of a gap in her artistic education, which she addressed by enrolling at the prestigious Florence Academy of Arts. There, in an institution dedicated to the return to discipline in art and to the direct study of nature and the Old Masters as the foundation for great painting, she received the highest level of instruction in the classical methods of drawing . Looking back on her time in Florence, Camilla realises that her experience of the Academy was, undoubtedly, the most stimulating part of her training as an artist and a key element in the success of her subsequent career, enabling her to capture not only a true likeness of favourite pets and animals, but also a reflection of their character, in her work.
This months box is all about working with layers to create palpable textures. Experiment with building up different intensities with the water to paint ratio with your colours; how do they lay on top of each other? How does the flatter, matt finish from mixing in the white look? Use the Chinagraph to form subtle patterns, markings shading and highlights- layer up and see where it takes you. Try these things out to see how they work in creating your tactile textures.

Daler Rowney Aquafine Watercolour Tubes
Daler Rowney proudly continue their long heritage of manufacturing in the United Kingdom, based in the South of England, in Bracknell. These Aquafine Watercolour paints are made from a selection of modern, high-quality pigments that are milled to perfection, offering optimal performance and control. Aquafine watercolours are richly pigmented, free-flowing colours with fantastic lightfast properties. The transparent colours have excellent tinting strength and working properties that reliably produce beautiful, delicate washes every time you use them.
Derwent Push Button Waterbrush (M)
This convenient refillable water-brush is perfect for painting on the go, wherever and whenever creativity hits. This brush features a large water barrel and has a push button for easy to control water release. The bristles are made from durable nylon fibres, which holds shape and point for continuous and regular use. To fill it, just unscrew the two halves of the barrel and pour in a little water.
Royal Sovereign Chinagraph Pencils
These versatile pencils will work on virtually any surface, including china, plastics, acetate, film, brick, wood and glass. By combing specially selected pigments and waxes, they are resistant to water (but you can remove them from non-porous surfaces with a dry cloth or a tissue) making them for an interesting pairing with watercolour paints. These are extremely accessible and easy to use and can even be sharpened with a normal pencil sharpener.
A5 Watercolour Pad 300gsm (CP) 8 Sheets
This watercolour pad is custom made just for our Scrawlrs and is excellent paired with any water based medium. This pad contains 8 sheets of premium quality paper, so you should have plenty to get you through the weeks before your next box arrives.
I got this as a past box for £5, and it was worth it for the water pen alone. Quality supplies, and well worth nabbing.

Sadly I ordered this one
Sadly I ordered this one in the Black Friday sale and it was over-sold so I eventually had to choose a replacement, a pity as it was a gift intended for someone who is experimenting with watercolours.
