Robert Dutton

Robert is a professional artist and lives in North Yorkshire. A move he made with confidence from Leeds in March to be closer to his ever popular painting and expressive drawing subject matter - the North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales, East Yorkshire Coast, and The Lake District.

Having qualified with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (with Honours), Robert worked as a professional Graphic Designer and illustrator for over 30 years in the commercial sector. Following successive shows in London with his work and sell out shows in the North of England, in 2013 Robert took the decision to become a full time artist .

What was in the box?

Derwent Charcoal & Graphite Blocks

The Derwent Charcoal and Graphite blocks are chunky sticks made from a perfected blend of charcoal and graphite. They are great for creating bold, dramatic sketches and atmospheric line drawings. They’re perfect for seamless blending, mixing and layering and are also water-soluble too - add a little water to create a subtle wash. Experiment with using the side of the block to create wide sweeping strokes, and the ends, which can create finer more precise lines.

Faber Castell Pitt Graphite Matt Pencils

These Pitt Graphite Matt pencils are a revolution for graphite drawing. These innovative pencils are specially developed to reduce light reflections on the paper, for a perfect matt finish to your designs. They’re extra break-resistant, and have the environment in mind, with carbon-neutral production, wood from certified sustainable forestry and finished with an environmentally-friendly water-based varnish.

You may have seen tailors chalk for use with fabric, but Viarco have used this familiar shape to create an artists chalk block. This chalk pairs beautifully with charcoal and graphite as it layers and blends so easily and it’s water-soluble so you can create soft washes of white.

Goldfaber White Colour Pencil

This Goldfaber coloured pencil is created with high-quality materials to provide maximum break-resistance, excellent lightfastness and outstanding colour brilliance. Still my favourite box for drama

With my main medium being watercolour, I love how, with just a few well placed strokes, one can create *drama*. The blue pad is such a useful addition, softens the overall end result but gives it a depth you can't achieve with white paper. And finally I was grateful to be introduced to the work of the artist, thanks Scrawlrbox!
