Laura Basova
My name is Laura, online I go by Tomato Illustrates, and I’m a mixed media artist. I’ve always had a deep love for art and knew from a young age that I wanted to study it. In 2022, I graduated in Graphic Design and Illustration, which remains one of my proudest achievements. Art is something I constantly pour myself into. Even though it isn’t my full-time job, it’s always on my mind. I’m driven to keep improving, learning new techniques, and pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. I love challenging myself and chasing that feeling of “I can’t believe I made that,” which keeps me motivated and helps my work grow.
To build confidence online, I started streaming art on Twitch, which taught me a lot about communication and led me to creating long-form content on YouTube. I love being part of the art community and contributing to it. My advice to anyone who thinks it’s too late to start learning art: just start. It’s a skill you can develop at any age, and creating something you’re passionate about is incredibly fulfilling.
This months box is about exploring how metallics can transform your artwork. Whether you’re capturing the shimmer of a butterfly in the sun, the metallic glint of feathers at dusk, or inventing your own mythical winged creatures, let those luminous tones lead the way. As inspired by our featured artist, these supplies were made to play with light, dark, shimmer, shine and movement.
