Angelika Schulte

Angelika is an illustrator and designer based in Germany. She got very passionate about art at a young age and started to focus on drawing at 14. At that time she was highly influenced by Manga and Disney feature classics, so she started drawing her own characters, scenes and comics.

Later, while studying Media Design, she continued drawing in her free time and focused mainly on digital art. In the last two years her love for traditional media has resurfaced and she now experiments with a variety of materials like watercolour, coloured pencils and gouache to create her pieces.

Angelika currently shares her love of art and insights into her process on instagram, where she has also finds artists and illustrators from all over the world to further inspire her art work and encourage her to continue creating.

This months box is all about watercolours, but not in the usual sense. We are not including any tubes or pans of watercolour, but something a little different. These markers and pencils can be used as you would expect a pencil or marker to work, but if you add a little water you will be able to wash and mix the pigments around your work to create some stunning watercolour washes and effects. What was in the box?

Faber-Castell Albrecht Dürer Watercolour Marker

These Faber-Castell Watercolour Markers are highly pigmented with a lightfast water-based ink. They are dual-tipped markers with a flexible brush tip at one end and a medium bullet tip at the other. The pigmented water-based ink can be layered for a vibrant swatch of colour, or diluted with water to create a delicate watercolour wash. These markers can be used to employ a variety of techniques such as hatching, glazing, wet-on-wet, blurring, granulation, colour spritzing and more. And, as they are water soluble they are great for mixing and blending, to create the perfect colour gradient. These markers are ideal for both spontaneous sketching and artistic watercolour painting.

Faber-Castell Albrecht Dürer Watercolour Pencil

The Albrecht Dürer Magnus Pencils by Faber-Castell are watercolour pencils with extra thick 5.3mm lead, so they are ideal for covering large areas. They are highly lightfast and create a soft but saturated lay-down of colour. The satisfyingly chunky barrel enables hours of fatigue-free usage. These pencils are enriched with high-quality materials, which are combined with Faber-Castell's experience and expertise in art supplies, to produce unsurpassed watercolour effects. The coloured pigmented colouration can be also be transformed with a bit of water to create a brilliant wash of colour.
